g2 MISSION The g2 Institute of Integral Aesthetics was formed in 1996 by cultural theorist Martha Senger to explore the premise that the collective, archetypal imagination has the potential to create syntheses between new science, art and life -- syntheses with the potential for activating a leap to a new mind and new institutions for the 21st century. We intend to be a locus for the development of a new reality principle that views the world in terms of patterned processes interacting within whole systems which include consciousness. Our starting point is the understanding that the cosmos is a complex whole whose movement unfolds a multidimensional order in a dialectical flow between matter and mind -- a potentially transformative movement that's blocked at the human level by our fragmented thought and institutions. These ideas will be explored and synthesized within the context of an integral aesthetic sensibility, a direct apprehension of cosmic processes shared by the human collective unconscious -- elegant, economical, and liberatory patterns that are now emerging throughout the arts, postmodern science, philosophy, and alternative cultures throughout the world. Superseding the modern era's closed art circuit, the proposed synthesis would release a multiply-founded aesthetic reality principle - a science of the beautiful - to deconstruct the present mechanico-inert reality principle and its forms of domination that separate subject from object, culture from nature, and the realm of the ideal from the "facts" of life. The Institute is committed to exploring and harvesting this aesthetic-cognitive ground.
